The memories from the PolskaÉire Festival 2016

We hope you enjoyed the week of fun, dobry craic and celebration of Polish-Irish friendship. The 2nd PolskaÉire Festival took take place during the week of May 16-22 all over the island of Ireland, featuring over 100 events across Ireland including Arklow, Balbriggan, Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Ennis, Galway, Gorey, Kilkenny, Limerick, Swords, Wexford to name just a few!

The PolskaÉire Festival 2016 was officially opened on Monday, May 16, in Kilkenny by the Polish Ambassador to Ireland Mr. Ryszard Sarkowicz and the Lord Mayor of Kilkenny Mr. Joe Malone. As part of this year’s Festival, Polish and Irish rugby teams met for the first time in history for a friendly match on May 21st. Arka Gdynia, Poland’s champions, faced a Leinster Representative Side in this historic encounter. The Poles got a beating but it was dobry craic!

The Closing Gala of the Festival featured Kayah & Kíla in concert – a unique collaboration between a cult Polish singer Kayah and a leading Irish folk band Kíla, who presented an exclusive programme in Vicar Street (May 22nd). The concert was an unforgettable musical experience for both the artists and the audience.

The festival was the result of tireless work of the Steering Committee consisting of 20 Polish and Irish individuals who represent various national and local organisations in Ireland.

PolskaÉire 2016 secured media partnership from the Irish Times, RTÉ and Polskie Radio. It also received backing from various sponsors and partners. Thank you all for your invaluable assistance!
