Events The Craic Will Be Dobry!

Short Films Night, curated by Polish filmmaker Kamila Dydyna, is a diverse showcase of films by Irish and Polish filmmakers, aimed at celebrating the art of storytelling.

Program:
1. Love is a Sting (18:21 min, 2015), dir. Vincent Gallagher, synopsis:
A struggling children’s book writer gains an unexpected houseguest in the form of an ageing, hyper-intelligent mosquito named Anabel.

2. Testimony (9 min, 2015), dir. Kamila Dydyna, synopsis:
In 1991, Cat O’Neill is called as a witness in a domestic violence court hearing. Case parties: mum and dad.

3. Today (19min, 2015), dir. Tristan Heanue, synopsis:
‘Today’ is a hard hitting drama about a man who wakes up one morning in his car, disorientated, with no recollection of how he ended up parked in the middle of nowhere. The harsh reality soon comes flooding back once he gathers his thoughts.

4. The Good Father (9 min, 2014), dir. Aleksander Szeser, synopsis:
A model family spends a perfect summer afternoon on an idyllic picnic, when the unexpected arrival of two guests sheds a new and sinister light on that seemingly blissful break.

5. Waiting for Tom (8.05 min, 2015), dir. Ruth O’Looney, synopsis:
A bittersweet road trip across Ireland, Waiting for Tom is the story of a mother and daughter on a journey to find Big Tom and try and salvage their own relationship. It’s a story about growing older, and growing up. Above all, it’s the story of two very headstrong women and the ties that bind.

6. A Long Way to Rio (10:23 min, 2016), dir. Emily Phelan, cinematography: Zuzanna Gorzalczynska

7. An Rinceoir (3:59 min, 2013), dir. Elaine Gallagher, synopsis:
At a feis, a young dancer waits nervously in the wings. Once on stage, however, she shines, demonstrating her grá for Irish dancing.

8. Pepper (17:52 min, 2013), dir. Marc Cleary & Craig Robert Young, synopsis:
Today is a big day, it’s Pepper’s estranged son’s birthday. He disowned her 20 years ago for becoming a drag queen. A chance meeting with Charlie, a young old boy, reminds her the importance of family and doing the right thing.
